Support a cause to stop legalizing forced child marriage

action alert!
The Iraqi Council of Representatives is considering legislation that will legalise forced child marriage. This law is a recipe for life in domestic and sexual slavery.
Iraq: Don't Legalise
Forced Child Marriage!

please share
it helps!

If this legislation passes, there will be no minimum age to legally marry. A girl's father would legally be able to accept a marriage proposal no matter his daughter's age. A girl would be prohibited from resisting her husband's advances and leaving the home without his permission.

We need to show the Iraqi Prime Minister that the international community will not let him sacrifice young girls to a life of domestic and sexual slavery.

This law will doom many more girls to the fate of Rawan, an 8-year-old girl who was forced to marry a man five times her age in Yemen, where child marriage is legal. She died soon thereafter from the extensive internal injuries she sustained on her "wedding night."

We've seen the power of international scrutiny to end human rights abuses, so please sign the petition to protect the women and girls of Iraq.

The passage of this law will result in the deaths of some girls in Iraq and a torturous life of domestic and sexual slavery for many more.

Urge the Prime Minister of Iraq to strike down this law today!

Thank you for taking action,
