To escape sexual slavery, Maria fled to the U.S. The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) keeps children like Maria safe and supported. What Maria endured was a nightmare. She was beaten and raped almost daily, forced into prostitution, and subsequently became pregnant while held in slavery. She fled to the U.S. riding on top of trains to escape sexual bondage. Ask Senator Reid to protect unaccompanied children like Maria.
The TVPRA makes sure children like Maria are afforded basic legal advice and access to support and protects them from being trafficked. Since last October, the U.S. border patrol has apprehended more than 52,000 unaccompanied kids fleeing extreme violence from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
New legislation could mean these children — who've fled violence and abuse, and who have nowhere else to turn — are deported back to their home countries without meaningful screening. This is effectively a death sentence. Sign the petition supporting protection, care, and rehabilitation for unaccompanied, persecuted children who've come to the U.S.
